How NAET Developed
I became interested in NAET because I heard a story about Dr. Devi Nabudripad. She is an MD, acupuncturist, and chiropractor in California. When she was a child, she suffered from eczema. After she became an adult, she continued to suffer from bronchitis, pneumonia, arthritis, insomnia, depression, sinusitis, and migraine headaches. She was tired all the time, but was unable to sleep. Although she experimented with a wide variety of techniques and medicine, she only became more sick. As she puts it, “Every inch of my body ached. I lived on aspirin, taking almost thirty a day to keep me going.” One of her doctors thought she might have food allergies, and the test showed that she was allergic to almost all foods except white rice and broccoli. Dr. Nambudripad tried to eat white rice and broccoli only. Within a week, her bronchitis had cleared, and her headaches and joint pain became infrequent. We now understand that white rice is probably the least allergenic food, although it has few nutrients. When she began eating other foods again, her complaints slowly reappeared.
One day, she absent-mindedly ate a few pieces of carrot while waiting for the rice to cook. In a few minutes, she felt tired – as if she were about to pass out. Recognizing that she was experiencing an allergic reaction to carrots, she called her husband and asked him to give her some acupuncture treatment. He inserted the needles, and she slept for forty-five minutes. When she woke up, she felt strangely different; she was not feeling sick or tired. Quite the contrary – her energy level was high. As she got up from the bed, she noticed that some pieces of carrot were still stuck to her hand. She wondered if there was a connection between accidentally holding the carrots and waking up feeling so good. Her study of the electromagnetic fields and acupuncture meridians suggested a possible connection.
Using muscle testing techniques, she found she was no longer allergic to carrots; she ate them the next day with no reaction. When she treated herself to other foods, those allergies disappeared as well. She developed the system called Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Treatment (NAET).
How does NAET work in our practice?
One patient named Judy constantly complained of severe nasal congestion, chronic wheezing, and shortness of breath. The initial treatment for an allergy to eggs and chicken did not work. The next several treatments were for calcium, vitamin C, pollen, and mold. After several NAET treatments, she was completely free of symptoms for these allergens – no more runny nose, coughing, wheezing, or chronic congestion.
For another patient, named David, whenever he ate sugar or sweets, his nose would immediately redden and become runny, his hands would get cold, and he would experience headaches and depression. After the basic treatment and a specific treatment for sugar, he stopped craving sweets, felt energized, and had no reaction when he ate it. Then, I treated his grains and corn… he is not fatigued anymore.
I recommend NAET to many of my patients who are suffering from allergies or other chronic health issues. It has become one of my most effective treatments in my practice.
What is the theory behind it?
Another reason that I accept NAET easily is because it’s a similar idea to acupuncture meridians. Meridians are the pathway of life energy – in Chinese, called Qi. 12 meridians are named for the organs, including the Lung meridian, Stomach meridian, Heart meridian, and so on. Free flow of energy (Qi) circulation in the meridians ensures that our body is healthy and energetic. When meridian energy is blocked or diminishes, pain and illness occur. We need to clear the sickness meridians to help alleviate many kinds of illness.
The whole concept of NAET is that the body is an energy field, and it relies on a flow of electromagnetic currents. When an allergen enters or contacts the body, there is a clash between the energy field of the allergen and the allergy sufferer. The brain identifies the allergen and alerts the immune system, which locates the allergen and responds with antibodies and delayed reactive T and B cells. This type of immune reaction causes the release of toxic substances from the T cells. The fighter cells, called macrophages, then invade the area, intent on digesting the antigens. Immune-mediators, such as histamine, are released. These reactions cause blockage in the energy pathways, which we understand are acupuncture meridians. These responses can produce any number of symptoms, such as constriction of the sinuses, throat, or breathing pathways to keep the invader from entering the body, or vomiting, diarrhea, tearing up, and sinus discharge to remove it from the body. The brain makes an all-out effort to protect the body from any substance that it perceives as harmful.
If the blockages continue, or the body is constantly exposed to an allergen, the blockages spread throughout the system and more serious problems occur. When the immune system becomes overloaded, autoimmune problems develop. Over time, as it is bombarded with allergens, the body becomes more susceptible to chronic health problems, decreased energy levels, migraines, tumors, and mental problems.
There are three steps for NAET:
- Muscle testing. Put different kinds of allergen vials into the patient’s hand and muscle test to determine if the patient’s problems are caused by a particular substance, e.g. grass, milk. Examine the organs which have been blocked by this substance.
- Activate the organ’s excess points. The points are along the spine, to stimulate the points when the patient is still holding the allergen. This is to send a signal up and reprogram the brain.
- Acupuncture. This is to install changes neurologically and chemically, e.g. to get the enzymes turned on that weren’t present in the past.
